wohooo again.

GUESS WHAT??? REGINAS COUNTS ARE UP!!! ANC is 500!!! If nothing goes wrong we get out of hospital tomorrow. And since her counts are moving up we'll have stem cell harvest day coming up. I allready met with the people who are doing this and was explaned what to expect.

I'm not sure about Reginas TPN. Since she started having TPN she is moodier than usual. she is very whiny. Then yesterday her TPN was late for 5 hours ( busy pharmacy) . And while she was off the TPN she was such a good girl. Then they started tpn and she is moody all over. I don't really know how to read her anymore. She is geting so many different meds and it could be side effect of any of those other things, but for me seems that it's more tpn. I think it is way to strong for her because every time she eats some food she makes a comment that she can not eat anymore because her tummy is full. So today when I go back to hospital I mention to doctor that maybe it is possible to cut down the amount she is getting so she is starting to eat?? What do you think Kathy? Did steven ever had problems with TPN??

Anyway, i allready got all the supplies for TPN homecare and seems like it is not the worst thing to do but it is just that something extra that wakes me up every morning hour earlier. SO there you go!!!

Some of you know that I really did not eat red meat anymore.( sometimes I have bite but that is it). So last night I got these really bad redmeatcraivings. So I went to caffeteria and had ribs( beef). After I ate 3 ribs I was about to throw up. It was way to fatty for me and i guess my body is not ready for fatty food. I overeat, but i overeat healty foods in unhealty amounts, and my menu is mostly fat free ( cookie, here and cookie there - only fat). If you have cabbage in your house- I"M the happiest woman on earth. So know, if I come to visit you one day- go to grossery store and buy the biggest head of cabbage you could!!!!

Thrilled that Regina's counts are up and you'll be getting out of the hospital. It's also great that you haven't lost your sense of humor. The thought of the SMELL of that giant cabbage you want made me laugh!
Keep up the good work, both of you!
Love,
Carol :)

Our TPN story was that when Steven went into the hospital with his first fever, he wasn't eating, he'd lost 10 lbs.

Ken Bertang (the 6 foot 6 inch nurse) ordered TPN for him. Literally half an hour or so later Steven started eating, he ordered 13 drummies from the cafeteria and ate them all.

Ken said he won't be hungry after we start TPN, he ate eggs, bacon, and four packages of ice cream.

I requested that he have no TPN even before they started, but they were reluctant. Ken said that anyway they'd already ordered it, a batch costs something like $800. Then once they started, they said, we have to wean him off, we have to do a calorie count.

I said, I didn't count the calories, but I know that this is much more than Steven ever ate at home, please take him off.

The upshot is that by the time his counts came up, he was off the TPN, and we never had it again.

TPN is great if your child isn't eating, but if she's eating, I think it messes with her normal appetite, and it's always better for her to be taking in normal food.

If you think she'll keep eating, I'd say ask to take her off, although it may mean a few more days in the hospital. Hopefully she's gained back some of her weight.

Most kids I know were on TPN longer than us. The first cycle was by far the worst, after that Steven wouldn't eat at all during chemo, but would usually start the day or two after he got out.

By the time he was done with all four cycles, I think he'd only lost 3 lbs or something like that. TPN is a pain, you have to lug it around, but if you need it, you need it.

If you see Ken, maybe remind him about Steven, it became a standing joke amongst the B clinic folks about the way we got Steven to eat again was to order TPN.

BTW, if you get a craving for red meat again, try to skip the cafeteria. If you're going to splurge and eat ribs, at least go for Corky's or Rendezvous, you are staying in the home of the famous Memphis BBQ and the cafeteria has no idea how to make ribs. Corky's has drive-through and their drummies are good too.
