Regina had uneventful weekend. Usual for her. . Sleeping, 6 days no food. ANd max 2 oz water per day.. and even that 2 oz comes out fast... We asked Hospice care about fluids, but we were told that it could do more harm than good. Harm - her brain is not hungry and pushes out all extra fluids. IF we hook her up with IV fluids, her body will retain fluids and she will be very uncomfortable and vomit even more... So we just try to keep her comfy with pain meds and steroids and anti nausea meds..
She is not really responding to anything much these days. IF i ask her if she has a head ache she just says mmhm or mmh( yes). And that is it. I love you sounds like this-- i awu... She is very weak but she looks comfortable.
We had few visitors today. REginas best friend Heather came to see her, and then Pastor Samuel Lewis from Saddleback said a beautiful prayer..

Again- THANK YOU for dinner. Mangia Bene was Awesome and Corner bakery salads were great choice :) Thank you:)

Gabriel is doing ok. He has lot of questions and wants to know everything about Death and dying. I am not really hiding anything from him and telling him how things really are. SO if he says something really bizzare... blame it on me. Bad Diana... No cookie for you ...

Why on earth should you hide things from Gabriel? I think it's great that you are being up front with him -- he's a smart young man, he knows what's going on and he is part of your family. It's not easy to be truthful with kids about the harsh realities of life but I do think they are better off when we are up front!

I agree with Joanna, don't hold anything back from Gabriel. He's one smart little cookie, he knows what's going on and it's hard for even us as adults to comprehend things. So always be truthful with him. Your family is always on my mind. Praying this transition will go easy for the entire family and friends. Sending all my love.

Hi Diana,
My heart breaks for you and your beautiful little girl who fought this beast for so very long. My mother attends Saddleback and I have gone to many Christmas services there. I recall you saying once you were not all that religious and definitely did not care of the preachy Jesus-thing, but my mom is and what I have come to know is that Saddleback is a very warm, welcoming place to be and I know they will take very good care of you when the time comes. I am sure having the pastor there brought some peace to the crappy reality right now.
So I am on my way to OC today (to see my mother who was recently in the hospital) and hate to intrude on your privacy right now but would love to drop off anything you might need, if I have time after my visit with her. I will try your cell if I can, okay?
Peace be with you and your sweet Regina right now!
Hugs, Shelley

Diana,

You dont know me, but I follow your blog and am very moved by sweet Regina and your loving family. I had a friend in a similar situation with a daughter who eventually passed due to Nueroblastoma. One of the things she did before her daughter passed was take her fingerprint and turned it in to a charm that she wears on a necklace everyday. I thought it was such a great way to have a piece of her daughter close with her at all times. I just wanted to share that idea with you, just in case you haven't heard of it and are interested. If you google "fingerprint necklace" a ton of kits will pop up. Just another way to have beautiful Regina close to your heart forever. Much love and hugs to you and Regina, as well as the boys.

I know I'm repeating myself, but I totally love that photo of your family with Gabriel, it's SO darling.

Depending on how everything goes, I may barge in on you in the next few days, and if its not right you can always say no.

Love, hugs, and prayers and if I can help in a more concrete way, all you have to do is ask.

There are never any wrong answers to questions kids ask...you're so wise to give Gabriel honest, sincere responses. And isn't it wonderful that he is comfortable enough to ask you questions, even the tough ones.
Sending out lots of positive thoughts.
Lori
I love the picture of your four hands. It would be beautiful cropped and framed.

I, like Lori, also love the photo of your hands intertwined. You will always be united. In my prayers, Regina's name continues to be the first on my lips. Diana, I do understand your reluctance to hear "God-talk" and I have avoided it - until now. I will say only one thing and then I will drop it: God is weeping with you and will always take care of Regina and all of you.

Love,
Katrina
